1. According to MarketWatch, televangelist Joel Osteen canceled Sunday services at his Houston megachurch but was reluctant to reopen its doors to Harvey victims — despite the fact that thousands of flooded-out residents are desperately seeking shelter. The pastor told followers on Twitter on Monday to lean on their faith. “Jesus promises us peace that passes understanding,” he wrote. “That’s peace when it doesn’t make sense.” But Osteen’s comforting words didn’t sit well with critics, who wanted to know why the doors to the 16,800-seat arena at his Lakewood Church near downtown Houston remained closed. Just before noon on Tuesday, Lakewood Church posted the following message on its Twitter account: “Lakewood’s doors are open to anyone needing shelter. We are also looking for volunteers and collecting shelter supplies.”
2. According to the Associated Press, twelve years to the day after Hurricane Katrina slammed into the Gulf Coast, another deadly storm forced the rescue of hundreds of people from floodwaters in southwestern Louisiana and prompted New Orleans to shut down its schools and other key institutions as a precaution. Tropical Storm Harvey flooded neighborhoods overnight with chest-deep water in the Lake Charles area, near the Texas line, although water abated in some places Tuesday as rain slackened. In New Orleans, Mayor Mitch Landrieu urged residents to stay home Tuesday because of the threat of potential flooding. Many appeared to be heeding his call.
3. According to BCNN1, Louis Farrakhan, leader of the Nation of Islam, has declared that Jesus Christ is his “Redeemer” and has indicated that he knows he will have to “pay” for his false teachings. In a video released Tuesday, while reflecting on his inevitable death, the 84-year-old religious teacher said, “I thank God for guiding me for forty years absent my teacher [Elijah Muhammad]. So my next journey will have to answer the question. I’m gonna say it: I know that my redeemer liveth.” He emphasized, “I know. I’m not guessing that my Jesus is alive. I know that my redeemer liveth and because he lives I know that I, too, will pass through the portal of death yet death will not afflict me.”
4. According to the Republic, a Grand Canyon University professor has been placed on administrative leave after saying during a school-sponsored forum that some members of Black Lives Matter “frankly should be hung.” The private Christian school hosted the panel discussion nearly a year ago, but top-level officials said they were unaware of professor Toby Jennings’ “reprehensible” remarks until local NAACP and Black Lives Matter leaders contacted them last week. Phoenix-based GCU said in an apology published on its website this week: “The University wants to be clear that the professor’s rhetoric in no way reflects the heart of this University or its dedicated students, faculty and staff. The University’s President is leading an investigation into this incident.”
5. According to Entertainment Weekly, Beyoncé is sending more than her thoughts and prayers to Houston. The Lemonade superstar promised her support in aiding the victims of Hurricane Harvey through her charity initiative, BeyGOOD. Beyoncé said in a statement to The Houston Chronicle: “My heart goes out to my hometown, Houston, and I remain in constant prayer for those affected and for the rescuers who have been so brave and determined to do so much to help. I am working closely with my team at BeyGOOD as well as my pastor [Rudy Rasmus at St. John’s in downtown Houston] to implement a plan to help as many as we can.”
6. According to the Christian Post, Pastor John Gray is giving fans of his reality television show an opportunity to do more than just watch from home, he’s inviting them onto the OWN series so that he can personally help them change their lives. The associate pastor at Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas, is preparing for the second season of his show, “The Book of John Gray.” The preacher took to Instagram to invite his over 300,000 followers to utilize help from he and his wife, Aventer Gray, to overcome life’s challenges. Gray invited people who live in the Houston area, as well as those who can travel there, to share their story by emailing him for an opportunity to be featured in the next season of his show.
7. According to WREG Memphis, “Gone With the Wind” will be gone from The Orpheum’s summer movie series, the theater’s board said Friday. The Orpheum Theatre Group decided not to include the 1939 movie about a plantation in the Civil War-era South in its 2018 Summer Movie Series after feedback from patrons following the last screening Aug. 11. The theater’s operators said in a statement: “As an organization whose stated mission is to ‘entertain, educate and enlighten the communities it serves’, the Orpheum cannot show a film that is insensitive to a large segment of its local population.” Memphis’ population is about 64 percent African-American." />

11. The theater’s operators said in a statement: “As an organization whose stated mission is to ‘entertain, educate and enlighten the communities it serves’, the Orpheum cannot show a film that is insensitive to a large segment of its local population.” Memphis’ population is about 64 percent African-American.

http://blackchristiannews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/download-12.jpg
listen-after-criticism-joel-osteen-says-lakewood-church-is-open-to-victims-of-hurricane-harvey-bcnn1-8302017
;

This is the Black Christian News Network Podcast for Wednesday, August 30, 2017.

11. The theater’s operators said in a statement: “As an organization whose stated mission is to ‘entertain, educate and enlighten the communities it serves’, the Orpheum cannot show a film that is insensitive to a large segment of its local population.” Memphis’ population is about 64 percent African-American.

&source=http://www.faithfulnews.com/listen-after-criticism-joel-osteen-says-lakewood-church-is-open-to-victims-of-hurricane-harvey-bcnn1-8302017"

This is the Black Christian News Network Podcast for Wednesday, August 30, 2017.

11. The theater’s operators said in a statement: “As an organization whose stated mission is to ‘entertain, educate and enlighten the communities it serves’, the Orpheum cannot show a film that is insensitive to a large segment of its local population.” Memphis’ population is about 64 percent African-American.
