Dallas, Texas (September 12, 2017) – With a presence in every zip code in the United States, The Salvation Army is uniquely positioned to support those affected by Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma. Our national network of trained disaster staff and volunteers have been deployed to locations throughout Texas, and now Florida, to provide food, hydration, clean-up kits, hygiene supplies, and emotional and spiritual care to first responders and survivors.

In Texas, Salvation Army relief teams are serving many of the hardest hit communities following the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey. Mobile feeding units are delivering three meals a day and essential supplies in communities still without power or where power has only recently been restored.

“While a large-scale feeding operation continues across southeast Texas, The Salvation Army response to Hurricane Harvey is beginning to transition from emergency assistance towards long-term recovery,” said Alvin Migues, Emergency Disaster Services Director for The Salvation Army in Texas. “With teams on the ground providing food and practical assistance, we are continuing to assess the changing needs of each community and evaluating where we can best position our resources to be the most effective.”

Seventy-eight mobile feeding units operated by Salvation Army staff and volunteers continue to work in Houston, Victoria, and in the Golden Triangle and Coastal Bend regions of Texas. As residents return to their homes following evacuations the demand for meals, clean-up kits and other supplies is expected to increase. Other Salvation Army locations are providing support to shelter and distribution efforts in their respective communities.

Hurricane Harvey - Disaster Relief Overview (9/11)

About The Salvation Army
The Salvation Army, established in London in 1865, has been supporting those in need without discrimination for more than 135 years in the U.S. More than 25 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year through a range of social services: food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless, and opportunities for underprivileged children. The Salvation Army tracks the level of need across the country with the Human Needs Index (HumanNeedsIndex.org). The Salvation Army has served survivors of every major national disaster since 1900. The Salvation Army does not place an administrative fee on disaster donations. During emergency disasters, 100 percent of designated gifts are used to support specific relief efforts.
