(Jon Shapley/Houston Chronicle via AP)</figure></div>  <p class="text">Harvey dumped record levels of rain on Houston and other parts of Texas, with the storm and flooding, <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2017/09/02/harvey-recovery-continues-as-president-trump-heads-down-to-visit-battered-texas-and-louisiana/?hpid=hp_hp-top-table-main_harvey-1240p%3Ahomepage%2Fstory&amp;utm_term=.858eb163ebc9">which still might not recede for days</a> in some areas, <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2017/national/harvey-impact/">affecting millions of people</a> in the southeast part of the state. The National Weather Service described the flooding as “<a href="https://alerts.weather.gov/cap/wwacapget.php?x=TX125862FBDC3C.FlashFloodWatch.1258633771C0TX.HGXFFAHGX.79be0bea422bcfab8cd27f191ef741c6">epic and catastrophic</a>” and “<a href="https://twitter.com/NWS/status/901832717070983169">beyond anything experienced</a>.”</p>  <p class="text">Want to help?</p>  <p class="text">Here are several organizations and coordinated efforts coming to the aid of Texans:</p>  <p class="text"><a href="http://www.redcross.org/hp/harvey2"><strong>The American Red Cross</strong></a> is encouraging people to donate money on its website or to text 90999 to donate $10. The organization is also asking for volunteers.</p>  <p class="text">Other organizations include <strong><a href="http://salvationarmyhouston.org/">the Salvation Army</a>, <a href="https://www.samaritanspurse.org/article/relief-units-rolling-texas-hurricane-harveys-punch/?utm_source=Ggl&amp;utm_medium=cpc&amp;utm_campaign=m_YGHH-B17V_HHSP">Samaritan’s Purse</a> </strong>and<strong> <a href="http://www.hearttoheart.org/hurricaneharvey/">Heart to Heart International</a></strong>.</p>  <p class="text">The crowdfunding website <a href="https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/hurricane-harvey-relief-fund/"><strong>Global Giving</strong></a> is trying to raise $5 million to provide “food, water, and medicine in addition to longer-term recovery assistance” to Harvey’s victims. Through Saturday afternoon, it had raised more than $2.25 million from 22,421 donors.</p>  <div class="ad-container"><amp-ad data-loading-strategy="prefer-viewability-over-views" data-slot="/701/wpni.amp.national/blog/post-nation" height="250" json="{}" type="doubleclick" width="300"></amp-ad></div>  <p class="text"><strong><a href="http://www.savethechildren.org/site/c.8rKLIXMGIpI4E/b.6115947/k.B143/Official_USA_Site.htm">Save the Children</a></strong> is collecting donations via its website, and providing supplies and play areas at shelters for infants and toddlers. Donors can also text “Hurricane” to 20222 to donate $25 via their phone bill. <strong><a href="http://www.texasdiaperbank.org/">The Texas Diaper Bank</a></strong> is also assisting people with small children.</p>  <p class="text">The crowdfunding service <strong><a href="https://www.gofundme.com/raise-funds/hurricane-harvey">GoFundMe</a></strong> also has highlighted stories of people who are suffering as a result of Harvey.</p>  <p class="text"><strong><a href="https://www.airbnb.co.uk/disaster/hurricaneharveyevacuees">Airbnb</a> </strong>has waived fees for people affected by Harvey who check in through Sept. 25.
